The Travis Mills Foundation supports recalibrated veterans and their families. We are a wellness retreat located in Maine’s Belgrade Lakes region, helping heroic men and women overcome physical and emotional challenges through various programs. These include activities designed to strengthen families and offer rest for those who need it most. If you’re in Greater Boston and consider yourself a recalibrated veteran, contact us.
What is a recalibrated veteran?
The term’ recalibrated veteran’ was coined by SSG Travis Mills, an injured veteran from Afghanistan who was wounded by an IED. Instead of calling himself a ‘wounded warrior,’ he chose ‘recalibrated’ to reflect his healing—adapting to a new life and rediscovering purpose. The foundation shares this philosophy, recognizing each veteran’s unique journey, and is committed to helping them find new opportunities to recalibrate their lives.

HHERO Program
One of our most popular initiatives supports recalibrated veterans and their families, including spouses, partners, children, and guests. If your family visits from Greater Boston, we will tailor a schedule with adapted sports and activities suited to everyone. Participation isn’t mandatory. Families can also choose to rest and relax. Family programming runs year-round, featuring activities such as kayaking, zoo visits, wheelchair basketball, archery, dog sledding, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and more!
Caregiver Program
We deeply value the essential roles caregivers play in the lives of veterans. Therefore, we’ve created a dedicated caregiver program for spouses, partners, parents, and siblings caring for veterans. This program promotes self-care, relaxation, and peer support, giving caregivers opportunities to recharge, share experiences, and find community understanding.
Warrior PATHH
Our Warrior Progressive & Alternative Training for Helping Heroes (PATHH) is the first program designed to cultivate Post-Traumatic Growth (PTG) in veterans and first responders. It helps these warriors transform struggles into strength and growth. The program begins with a 7-day in-person initiation at the Travis Mills Foundation in Belgrade Lakes, followed by 90 days of training with PATHH Guides—those who have completed the program themselves.
Recalibrate Program
Introduced in 2022, the Recalibrate Program builds on the motivation veterans gain after attending the retreat. It offers financial support, goal setting, and long-term follow-up to ensure continued progress. Past support includes driveway paving, cleaning services, electric bikes for commuting, and more.
