What is the HHERO Program?
The HHERO Program (Helping Heroes Empower Recalibrate & Overcome) is for recalibrated veterans, spouses, children, or guests. The schedule is packed with adapted sports and activities to meet the needs of all. The idea for the HHERO Program was inspired by the experiences of U.S. Army SSG (Ret.) Travis Mills and his wife, Kelsey, while Travis recovered from an IED explosion that took portions of all limbs.
Why Is The HHERO Program Important?
The HHERO Program is offered year-round and up to eight families per week stay in the Main House of the Retreat. The experience is geared toward the post-9/11 recalibrated veteran, their spouse and children, or a guest.
While a robust schedule with adapted activities is provided to meet the needs of all, participants aren’t required to join. They are welcome to use the time to rest, relax and reconnect. Activities offered included kayaking, wheelchair basketball, archery, dog sledding, ice fishing, tubing, fishing, art therapy, canoeing, golfing, massage therapy and much more.
