The Travis Mills Foundation supports post-9/11 recalibrated veterans and their families through various programs that help these heroic men and women overcome physical and emotional obstacles, strengthen their families, and provide well-deserved rest and relaxation.

We support these veterans through our nationally recognized retreat located in the Belgrade Lakes Region of Maine. Veteran families who have been injured in active duty or as a result of their service to our nation receive an all-inclusive, all-expenses-paid, barrier-free experience in Maine where they participate in adaptive activities, bond with other veteran families, and enjoy much-needed rest and relaxation in Maine’s outdoors.

The Travis Mills Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides programs to help recalibrate the lives of post-9/11 veterans who have been injured in combat. TMF also offers training that transforms post-traumatic stress; those eligible include veterans, first responders, and active serving military.

Born and raised in Vassar, Michigan, United States Army Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Travis Mills of the 82nd Airborne is a recalibrated veteran, motivational speaker, actor, author, and advocate for veterans and amputees. He founded the Travis Mills Foundation to support fellow recalibrated veterans, and their families, in similar situations.

Recalibrate: To reexamine (one’s thinking, a plan, a system of values, etc.) and correct it in accord with a new understanding or purpose.

SSG Travis Mills coined the term “recalibrated veteran” after he lost portions of all of his limbs in an IED explosion while serving our country in Afghanistan. He didn’t want to be called a “wounded warrior” – his wounds had healed. Instead, he referred to himself as recalibrated; He adjusted to his new normal.

The word “Recalibrated” is used at the Travis Mills Foundation to describe a change in thinking. Recalibrated is used to describe a veteran with life changing injuries. The term is also applied to students in Warrior PATHH who transform struggle into strength and learn to thrive in the aftermath of trauma by achieving Post-Traumatic Growth; they, along with the men and women who attend our Caregiver Program, are also recalibrated.

The Travis Mills Foundation offers free retreats for post-9/11 recalibrated veterans and their families at the Travis Mills Foundation Veterans Retreat in the Belgrade Lakes region of Maine. The Foundation services veterans who have been severely injured (both physically and psychologically) during post-9/11 military services.
