Pam Bacon has been a member of the Travis Mills Foundation staff since August 2023. The Belgrade resident recently accepted the position of Volunteer Coordinator. Before that, she served as the Accounts Receivable Administrator in the Foundation’s Finance Department. We asked Pam to reflect on her position, time spent at the Veterans Retreat, and more:
Have you done similar work in the past?
Yes, at my previous employer, I held many positions, the most recent being Supervisor/Manager. It was very similar to the responsibilities in my position as Volunteer Coordinator.
What’s your favorite part of working at TMF?
It doesn’t feel like a job; personally, it’s very rewarding to see our post-9/11 recalibrated veterans and their families enjoying their time at the Retreat. Watching the families (especially the kiddos) bond, you can’t help but smile when you hear the little ones talk about their “new best friends.” On the volunteer side of TMF’s operations, I’ve very much enjoyed getting to know those who devote their valuable free time to serving our participants. Everyone has varied backgrounds and they’re so willing to give back to our nation’s military.
Do you have a favorite story you’d like to share from your time here?
Though I’ve only been the Foundation’s Volunteer Coordinator for a short time, volunteers have welcomed me – you might even say they have taken me under their wing because let’s face it, they have been doing this work much longer than I have. I’ve also enjoyed working in the main building of the Retreat and getting to know the program staff – it’s a new experience every day!
What is your favorite feature of the Retreat/Foundation?
The gardens!
What is a fun fact about yourself?
I have never broken a bone…knock on wood!
